De Dietrich Process Systems presents its new drum dock station equipped with the DIT solution for safe handling of powders

The De Dietrich Process Systems group extends its range of solutions for handling pharmaceutical and chemical powders with a new Drum Iris Technology (DIT) dock station which guarantees a high level of containment.

The loading, unloading and transfer of powders are a major concern for companies in the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. Several objectives must be reached: limiting the exposure of operators to highly active or toxic powders while at the same time protecting these same powders from any pollution coming from the environment.

Driving innovation on the warehouse floor

To improve throughput and space utilisation, warehouses use stacker cranes for the automated retrieval and storage of goods. While operating at high speed, these devices effectively locate, pick, transport and unload cargo. Variable speeds drives (VSDs) play a key role in determine ng their correct and effective operations.

The first features that businesses should look for when specifying VSDs for stacker cranes is accuracy and repeatability. These are achieved by different types of control that work together to precisely position loading platforms, forks and trolleys.

Using a variable speed drive that allows users to create operation patterns based on key parameters, such as frequency as well as s-curve acceleration and deceleration time, is a good starting point to deliver advanced position accuracy. Moreover, a drive that can support closed-loop and dual feedback control via encoders as well as laser sensors, can enhance both tracking and spatial accuracy. Stacker cranes with VSDs that incorporate these controls can shorten the time required to get to a defined location and avoid unnecessary adjustments to fine-tune their positioning.

Critical Machinery Move for Advanced Automotive Technology

From its humble beginnings as an automotive engineering consultancy almost 40 years ago, AB Dynamics have become one of the world’s leading suppliers of automotove test systems, counting the world’s 25 biggest car makers among their customers.

In 2017, AB Dynamics completed the build of a £9million, state-of-the-art 39,000-square foot manufacturing facility and headquarters in Middleton Drive, Bradford- on-Avon. But with headcount doubling in four years and business continuing to grow, the company soon needed more space and developed an Engineering Design Centre, adjacent to its existing building.

Consisting of 15 machines, as well as some ancillary items, the move to the new Engineering Design Centre was a critical facility move for the business, and there could be no machine downtime. The machines would be forming the hub for all prototype design and production of AB Dynamics’ world-leading robotics, ADAS targets, and automotive testing and measurement hardware.
